Turkmenistan:Proved reserves sufficient to meet export contracts

THE COUNTRY has"more than sufficient"natural gas to fulfil its export contracts,according to a reserves audit by Gaffney Cline&Associates.The UK-based consultancy claims the South lolotan and Osman fields in the east of the country could hold between 4 trillion and 14 trillion cubic metres(cm)of gas and are most likely to contain 6 trillion cm.Any figure in this range would make it by far the country's largest gas-field.At the top end of the range,it would be one of the five largest gas-fields in the world.By comparison,Russia's Shtokman field is thought to contain around 4 trillion cm.But unlike Shtokman,the Turkmenistani fields are onshore in a relatively benign operating environment.
