Tehran’s gas export plans face shaky future

Iran is revisiting stalled plans to export gas to a number of its neighbours after reaching a framework agreement over its nuclear plans with the P5+1 group of powers. That 2 April deal may pave the way for sanctions relief in the second half of this year,but Iran could struggle to realise even a fraction of its gas export plans over the medium term.Its investment priorities are likely to shift as soon as international sanctions are lifted,if negotiations are concluded ahead of a 30 June deadline.Cash-strapped and short on technical expertise,Tehran will have to choose post-sanctions projects carefully and is likely to prioritise crude developments at the expense of gas.
