US targets Isis finances

The US is pushing for a UN-led effort to cut off funding to Islamist group Isis, acknowledging limited effects from military strikes on Isis-controlled oil facilities. A rare meeting of UN Security Council members’ finance ministers on 17 December agreed to refocus onto Isis an international sanctions regime created to restrict the activities of terrorist group al-Qaida.
