摘要

Scaling on metallic surfaces often occurs in machinery, process pipe lines and joints as well as pumps and equipment etc in pulp and paper manufacturing. In the process line, digester, washer, paper machine, evaporator, recovery boiler, cooling tower and power generation plant are especially vulnerable to scaling, irrespective of whether the raw material is wood, agro-residue or recycled fibre. Scales are found to be a very hard and tenacious mass including inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate, sulphate, oxalate, silicates etc and organic matters such as pitch, fibre-lets, Dissolved and Colloidal Substances (DCS), Non-Process Elements (NPE) and other substances emanating from raw materials.
