Given the complexity of symbolic corporate environmentalism, Bowen's after greenwashing adopts a mix of theoretical, empirical, conceptual and case studies approaches to analyse symbolic environmental discourses. Although the book draws on critical, organisational, economic and management theories, its emphasis straddles critical and conventional theorisation about corporate green solutions. The first chapter introduces some developments in corporate environmentalism research and practice. It highlights the rise and fall of HSBC's 2005 greening initiative which critics labelled as corporate greenwashing. Particularly, the book argues for urgent and important solutions to environmental problems.
