Brazil sets sights on Nigerian poultry market as Egyptian sales wobble

Brazil is targeting Nigeria as a new market for poultry exports amid concern over a recent decline in shipments to Egypt. Members of the Brazilian poultry association Ubabef are currently accompanying Brazil's president Dilma Rousseff on an official visit to Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, but one of the few on the continent which now imports little or no chicken from Brazil. Brazilian chicken is already sold to almost 40 countries in Africa, and last year, 565 000 tonnes of whole birds, cuts and processed items were sold to the continent.
