摘要

The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) is likely to have spent more than US$6 billion (ELLR4.5bn) over the last 18 months buying wheat and other grains from the international market to maintain its commitment to providing emergency food aid to some 90 million people in 73 different countries.Unsurprisingly, this grain had to be obtained from the lowest priced and most readily available sources. Inevitably, this meant that it would have been supplied largely by the four or five main international traders who control the bulk of the world's international grain trade. Where else could it have come from?
