Pinewood Managers visit to Glen Ferrick pinewoods - 2 May 2019

The most easterly forest on the Caledonian Pinewood Inventory (CPI) is Glen Ferrick, west of Banchory in Deeside. It comprises three land holdings: Finzean Estate, Ballogie Estate and The Forest of Birse Commonty managed by the Birse Community Trust (BCT). We were joined by Andrew Farquharson of Finzean, Malcolm Nicol of Ballogie and Paul Chapman and Eoghan Cameron of the Birse Community Trust. Photo 2This pinewood does not feature in Steven and Carlisle's The Native Pinewoods of Scotland. Robin Callander identified continuous woodland cover here since the Roy map (circa 1750) and he successfully argued for its inclusion on the CPI in 1991.
