摘要

Although curbs on agricultural futures and high-frequency trading are finding favour among MEPs in Brussels, across the Atlantic a setback for legislators has been seen after a court overturned proposed position limits aimed at speculators accused ofpushing up food prices.Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia has sent the proposals back to the originators at the Washington DC-based Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for revision. However, this is certain to be challenged by the CFTC, as the limits were due to become law later this month, and could now be delayed indefinitely by a combination of political factors and legislative logjam.
