A novel method is presented whereby the calibrated hold-up time is used to calculate the temperature-programmed retention times in tandem-column, with different polarities, gas chromatography (GC). In this method, no column parameters and extra GC equipment are required, but just using the capacity factors obtained on the two individual columns and the isothermal retention times of two calibrating compounds obtained on tandem-column GC is enough. In this work, three approaches were used to obtain the calibrated hold-up time. Among them, the approach taking into account that the hold-up times of two coupled columns change with temperature yielded the best prediction results. The average relative and absolute errors of the results were only 0.17 and 1.85%, respectively, for all the 11 analytes across all the six different heating procedures in tandem-column GC.
