Poultry producers around the world should learn lessons from recent experiences in the US and Brazil, where the industry last year adapted to tough conditions by cutting back production levels. But in western Europe, the industry is also facing a verydifferent set of pressures as consumer priorities evolve, according to Nan-Dirk Mulder, associate director of commodities at Rabobank. Speaking at Agra Informa 's World Poultry 2013 conference in Brussels last week, Mulder explained how sluggish demandand high feed costs had caused serious problems in the first half of 2012. But Brazilian and US producers successfully responded by cutting supply and clearing stocks, which helped recover margins.
