BACK TO THE FUTURE OF ANALYTICS EDUCATION

I BEGAN MY CAREER IN OPERATIONS research/management science/analytics (hereafter "analytics") at about the same time that Russ Ackoff, one of the gurus of our field, published his infamous article, "The Future of Operational Research is Past" [1]. Ackoff's conclusion was that the then current deficiencies could "only be overcome by a reconcep-tualization of the field ... the way it is practiced, and the way students are educated to practice it." As we now know, the "reconceptualization" of our field has occurred under the branding of "analytics."
