摘要

Around 4:30 am on Friday, 22 June 2018, 32 BNSF rail cars derailed near the tiny town of Doon, Lyon County, Iowa (USA). No injuries were reported, although several nearby residents were evacuated. The train was carrying Conoco-Phillips crude oil from Alberta, Canada tar sands en route to Stroud, Oklahoma (USA). According to BNSF, 14 of the 25,000-gallon (595-barrel) DOT117R railcars were damaged, leaking an estimated 230,000 gallons (about 5,500 barrels) of crude oil. DOTl 17R railcars have been retrofitted to meet the improved safety standards of 49 CFR 179.202-13 -Retrofit standard requirements (DOT-117R).
