BNSF reports derailment of train carrying crude in Illinois.

The railway said a 105-car train, 103 of which were carrying crude, derailed in a rural area about two miles south of Galena, IL (US) on the afternoon of March 5 with 21 cars coming off the tracks. According to Jo Daviess County Emergency Manager Charles Pedersen, there was no explosion as a result of the derailment and no injuries were reported though local officials recommended everyone within a one-mile (1.6-km) radius of the crash evacuate due to the presence of a propane tank near the derailment that officials feared could explode. Galena City Administrator Mark Moran noted that five of the derailed cars caught fire and were still burning as of the afternoon of March 6. Local firefighters said the railcars on fire would be allowed to burn themselves out.
