Drilling costs decrease in parallel with reduced field activity

Canada's drilling contractors booked fewer than 7,000 operating days in the second quarter of 2009, yielding a dismal rig utilization rate of about 9 per cent for the three-month period. However, a new study released by the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) indicates that service costs have decreased by 13 per cent, which the association hopes will help buoy up activity levels later this year.
