Imperial/ExxonMobil bid big for Horn River Basin licences

Eight drilling licences in the Horn River Basin area, north of Fort Nelson, drew $173 million and pushed British Columbia's June land sale to just under $178.38 million-by far the biggest amount pulled in by a single petroleum and natural rights auction this year. One licence attracted a bonus of $62.53 million from broker Scott Land & Lease Ltd., but combined bidding by ExxonMobil Canada Energy and Imperial Oil Resources Limited was a highlight and accounted for the other big payouts mostly for large portions at 94-0-2, about 30 kilometres north of Fort Nelson.
