Smoothing of Real-Valued Functions on Uniformly Smooth Spaces

Uniformly continuous functions defined on subsets of uniformly smooth spaces are approximated in the uniform metric by functions with a uniformly continuous derivative. The results thus obtained are applied to functions defined on L ~( p )spaces (1 < p < ∞).
