SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING EQUIPMENT: CHINA IS FORECAST TO BECOME THE LEADING MARKET IN 2019

SEMI estimates the value of world sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, an indication of future semiconductor demand, will rise by 11 % to US$62.7B in 2018 and by a further 8% to US$67.6B in 2019. This would represent the third consecutive year of record sales. Growth in 2017 was led by South Korean shipments. Growth in 2018 is expected to be driven by higher sales by China (+43%) and Japan (+32%). Market expansion in 2019 will again be led by China, where sales are projected to increase by 47% (to US$17.3B).
