Promoting infrared light driven photocatalytic activity of W18O49 nanorods by coupling polypyrrole

摘要

It is essential to promote the infrared light driven photocatalytic activity of W18O49. To do this, W18O49 nanorods coupled with polypyrrole (PPY) have been synthesized via solvothermal reaction. The prepared PPY/W18O49 nanorods were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Compared with bare W18O49 nanorods, the PPY/W18O49 nanorods display improved near infrared light driven photocatalytic activity for degradation of different organic pollutants such as phenol, methyl orange and methylene blue with the degradation rate of 35.71, 72.53 and 45.86%, respectively. The promoted photoactivity can be attributed to the coupled PPY on the surface of photocatalyst could increase the interfacial charge transfer and inhibit the recombination of electron-hole pairs. This near infrared light driven W18O49 based composite will open a new avenue to design full spectrum response photocatalyst.
