Recently, researchers have focused on the synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles due to their many applications in biological, chemical, pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) are one of them and used in pharmaceuticals, adsorption, as catalysts etc. The green synthetic methods using any biomaterials as reducing agents are better than other conventional methods. These methods are generally low cost, effective, efficient and environmentally friendly. In this study, we have performed a successful, efficient and low cost synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) in our laboratory scale using the leaves extract of Rhododendron arboreum. The biologically synthesized MgONPs have been characterized by using different analytical techniques such as UV-Visible, Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The antimicrobial study of MgONPs was carried out by using well diffusion method. The leaves extract based MgONPs were found good antibacterial agents against Escherichia coli, Spectrococous mutans and Proteus vulgaris.
