摘要

Elderly patients use the majority of health care services. Radiology department protocols and procedures that work, for younger patients might not be adequate when caring for older patients who have experienced age-related changes to their mobility or mental faculties. Falls are the most frequent cause of unintentional injuries in older patients and account for most hip, wrist, and head injuries, which often is why they visit the radiology department. Chest radiographs also are common for elderly patients because heart and lung issues, as well as rib fractures, become more common as people age. Many elderly patients experience chronic, complex medical conditions, in addition to psychological and social issues. Often, they are no longer as strong or as independent as they used to be. As technologists, we should be attuned to their needs, which might include taking more time for each examination or reacting quickly to age-related issues, such as increased sensitivity to temperature changes, delicate skin, and hearing or vision loss.
