Sierra Aluminum Company completed the upgrade of two of its 8 inch, 2,500 ton extrusion lines in Fon-tana, CA, with automated profile stacking, transfer, and packaging systems. The increased automation will provide a number of safety improvements, as well as reduce labor requirements, as the company has been challenged by labor shortages in the area. "We're happy to pay for the cost of workers, but we have a hard time competing for them," said Randy Lunger, vp of manufacturing for Sierra. "Because of the large number of other warehouses in the area, workers are increasingly hard to find."
