摘要

The momentum behind uptake of liquefied natural gas as a marine fuel is growing. There have been increasing numbers of orders at shipyards for gas-fuelled vessels, bunkering vessels and investment in LNG bunkering infrastructure, all of which will encourage more owners to consider LNG for future projects. For the most part,LNG's emissions profile is well known. It emits zero sulphur oxides(SOx),virtually zero particulate matter(PM),and compared to existing heavy marine fuel oils,90 percent less nitrogen oxides(NOx).While greenhouse gas(GHG)reductions are less clear cut, academic literature suggests that realistic reductions of 10-20 percent are achievable, with a potential for 25 percent or more as technology develops over the coming years, compared with conventional oil-based fuels. This is why, today,LNG represents a commercially viable, possible long-term bridging solution to a zero-emissions shipping industry, with immediate local and GHG emission benefits. It's a step in the right direction for reducing C02-GHG emissions and the move towards full decarbonisation,as part of a multi-path road. What most people agree on is that there is no silver bullet when it comes to emissions reductions in shipping. The industry has experienced the evolution of ship propulsion from wind power to gas fuel. And the transition from one to the next is not sequential. Each propulsion method co-exists alongside each other for a period of time.At Bureau Veritas,we believe that this trend will continue towards 2030 and 2050,with the industry relying upon a multi-pathway propulsion solution that includes co-existence of traditional fuel oil(residual, distillate),LNG and alternative fuels such as biofuels, hydrogen, ammonia and synthetics.
