May gas futures sank 6.9c, or 3.8% to $1.74 per million Btu, dropping 19.3c during the past two sessions, but held on to a 0.7c gain for the week.
Technically, there is chance the rally staged earlier this week could resume before Tuesday's expiration, though bearish physical fundamentals argue against it. “Weather has moderated quickly in recent days and moving quickly towards a mild, shoulder season pattern that will limit demand going into May,” Gelber & Associates analyst Daniel Myers said Friday. “This, and recent demand destruction, continue to limit the short-term upside for gas prices.”
