The August natural gas contract sank 3.3% Friday to close in the $2-teens per million Btu and posted a 3.6% drop for the week.
The prompt month matched the May 27, 2016, close at $2.169. “The mid-summer slide is on its next leg as prices return for a test of June’s lows,” “Now that the peak summer season is running short, the market has lost its faith that demand will ever pick up enough to hold the in-flow of production into storage for any extended period,” Gelber & Associates analyst Daniel Myers said, adding that contract’s expiration on Monday could bring in some bargain buyers following the weekend.
