Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) said Friday that the number of customers affected by their preemptive outages is dropping, even as the situation has resulted in a Kinder Morgan fuel pipeline from near San Francisco to Nevada being shut down.

PG&E officials said service had been restored to 426,000 customers out of final total of 738,000 that had been cut off during what is now termed a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) operation. At one time Thursday, more than 1 million California residents in the northern and central part of the state were without power as several utilities instituted PSPS operations. State officials said those outages could spread southward due to Red Flag weather conditions.
