Vazguard~(TM):The new lecithin delivery system for bergamot extract

Bergamot is used to flavour Earl Grey, one of the most popular teas in the world, and derives from Citrus bergamia (Fig. 1) Risso et Poiteau, an endemic plant of the Calabrian region of Southern Italy. The traditional use of bergamot is currently being rediscovered due to its unique mix of polyphenolic content [1], specifically the high percentage (almost 80%) of flavonoids, found in its juice, albedo and flavedo. It has shown antioxidant effects, hypoglycaemic and hypolipi-daemic activity, has positive benefits for modulating the metabolic syndrome, and protects against cardiovascular disorders, due to its cholesterol- and lipid-lowering activity. Bergamot offers a safe alternative for individuals who are intolerant to statins [2-5].
