India Expands Urban Projects to Boost Gas Usage in Homes, Businesses

India last week kick-started its biggest auction to date for projects to supply natural gas to households, vehicles and industrial consumers. The focus is on urban areas as its cities are getting choked by highly polluted air due to tailpipe emissions, the burning of coal in power plants and by industry, and the use of biomass for cooking. The rollout of city gas distribution projects would boost India's demand for LNG with domestic production unlikely to keep pace with demand.
