Interior Plans Major Gulf Lease Sale, With 11 Million Acres Up for Bids

In March, 77 million acres in federal waters off the Gulf Coast will be put on the auction block in the largest oil and gas lease sale ever held by the US. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said the sale will include acreage offshore Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida inr an area roughly the size of New Mexico. It includes all available unleased sections on the Gulf's Outer Continental Shelf and will surpass last year's sale by about 1 million acres.
