Leviathan Project Off Coast of Israel Moves Closer to First Gas Production

An LNG-powered crane vessel has set a world record by lifting a 15,300 ton module for the topsides of the Leviathan platform off the coast of Israel and bringing the giant gas development project another step closer to going online before year's end.Sleipnir installed the two main topside components with a total weight of 24,500 metric tons for Leviathan,which is being developed by Noble Energy,the Delek Group and Ratio.The platform is located about eight miles from the shore in 53 feet of water.The topside decks are the surface decks of the platform and include the drilling bay,production and processing spaces,a helipad,work areas and the living quarters for the crew.The work on attaching the topside modules took about four weeks to complete.Noble said the $3.75 billion Leviathan project — the largest energy development in Israel's history — will have a total production capacity of 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day(NGW Aug.13’18).Supply from the field will be transmitted through two 74 mile subsea pipelines to the Leviathan platform,where it will be processed and then flowed through a pipeline connected to the Israel Natural Gas Lines system(NGW Oct.3’16).
