Southwestern Energy is turning its focus to liquids-rich portions of the Marcellus Shale following its exit from the Fayetteville Shale,a gas-rich asset that once defined the company but no longer competed for investment in today's market.Southwestern completed its sale of the Fayetteville assets in December to private-equity-backed Flywheel Energy for $1.65 billion.The move marked the end of an era in the Arkansas basin,one of the first shale gas plays in the US to move into development drilling and one that constituted the backbone of South-western's production for more than a decade after its discovery in 2005(NGWSep.l0'18).
