Turning points in solid-state, materials and surface science: a book in celebration of the life and work of Sir John Meurig Thomas

Sir John Meurig Thomas (JMT) knows something about Festschrifts for distinguished scientists. Among over 100 serious reviews and monographs that he has written in his elegant English (his second language), several are biographical accounts of predecessors at the Royal Institution (RI). In particular, he was the co-editor of a fine collection of articles by eminent scientists remembering Sir Lawrence Bragg [1]. One hopes that JMT's modesty will allow him to be pleased and touched by this large volume celebrating his own career thus far and edited by two friends and collaborators.
