Over the last couple of years policy-makers around the globe have actively discussed measures to change unhealthy dietary habits. Several studies have shown that conventional products that we consume on a daily basis may cause serious health issues 一if overconsumed. Sugar is one of the ingredients targeted for restrictions.There are two main issues with sugar. Firstly, sugary calorie-dense foods, such as chocolate bars or fizzy drinks, can easily be overconsumed without realising, leading to weight gain and raising the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Secondly, bacteria in our mouths ferment sugar to produce acid which causes irreversible tooth decay.
