Scrap – regaining competitive edge against other steelmaking materials

The global scrap market has been volatilein recent years. In 2015 scrap was largelyuncompetitive for large periods of timeas Turkish mills – the biggest seabornebuyers – hoovered up cheaper semi-finishedproducts from China and the Black Sea.Subdued iron ore and coking coal prices,and steel oversupply in China, meant Turkishmills chose to re-roll rather than melt scrap.
