Technologies for improving a non-autoclave composite manufacturing process called vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM)are reportedly being studied at the University of Missouri at Rolla, and the Boeing Co., Chicago, 111. Results of the program were reported at AeroMat 2005, the ASM Aerospace Materials & Processes conference and Exposition, in a paper titled "Manufacturing and Performance Improvements of Stiffened Carbon/Epoxy Panels Using the VARTM Process," by K. Chan-drashekhara, S. Sundararakan, T. Berkel, and G. Bilow. The goal is to develop accurate flow simulation modeling to improve process control and product quality.
