A few editions ago Your Doctor addressed booming Vice Chancellors' pay. He concluded for a number of reasons that the fair wage for a VC was ￡225,000, all in. Your Doctor feels they don't need a bigger reward or any bigger incentive. Now the University of Bath has returned to earth by appointing the very excellent Ian White, from Cambridge, for a far more realistic salary than his predecessor [1]. One does not expect to see annual increments boost this over the next few years: one expects Bath to be parsimonious with its income - most or all of which is derived from the public purse and its students. No doubt the Earl of Wessex, who seemed to lead the appointment process, is able to smell a gravy train when he sees one. Your Doctor hopes that other universities will follow suit as soon as reasonably possible.
