Kennametal introduces flat-bottom geometry for series of modular drills

Kingswinford-based Kennametal UK Ltd(www.kennametal.com) has expanded the replaceable drill offering for its KenTIP FS modular drill series with the new FEG insert for flat bottom hole applications in steel, cast iron and stainless steels. This insert eliminates end-milling operations and completes a task in a single step, saving time and tooling costs. Drilling flat-bottom holes can be challenging, as can drilling on inclined or curved surfaces, drilling into cross holes, drilling stacked plates and drilling into castings and other rough surfaces. However, Kennametal says its KenTIP FS modular drill with FEG insert geometry not only streamlines many of these types of applications but also simplifies the drilling of counterbores and pilot holes.
