VW launches digitalisation offensive

Volkswagen has revealed that it will invest up to 4 billion euros in digitalisation projects through 2023 - mainly in administration but also in production - and this will create at least 2, 000 new jobs. The 'digital transformation roadmap' agreed by the board and the General Works Council envisages agile working methods, improved processes and digitalisation reducing the burden on employees and speeding up processes. Consequently, up to 4, 000 jobs in non-production units at Volkswagen AG Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Components and Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH will not be re-staffed in the next four years. A pre-condition for this is that tasks are eliminated as a result of digitalisation, process optimisation and organisational streamlining. In addition, further investments in Industry 4.0 and an associated increase in productivity of 5%per year in production units through 2023 were agreed.
