Comments on the paper entitled 'Rapid tentative identification of synthetic cathinones in seized products taking advantage of the full capabilities of triple quadrupole analyzer'

Dear Editor, We have read with interest the paper entitled "Rapid tentative identification of synthetic cathinones in seized products taking advantage of the full capabilities of triple quadrupole analyzer" by Fabregat-Safont et al. [1], devoted to the application of mass spectrometry techniques for the identification of psychoactive substances, namely cathinones. In the introduction section, there is an excellent brief review of the main problems arising during identification of this class of compounds. Therefore, the authors devised a new identification strategy based on the use of two techniques, namely precursor ion scan and neutral loss scan. The strategy will surely find practical application in forensic laboratories. There is also no doubt that the paper is of very high quality from a scientific point of view, indicating the authors' profound knowledge and experience in the field of mass spectrometry.
