The leader in this important conversion is Chrysler Corp.- first with its Pacifica 3.8 L engine,quickly to be followed by 3.3 L,3.7 L,4.7 L,and 8.4 L engines going into a total of nine vehicle models.Expect other OEMs to follow.Dimensional stability is key.The throttle body controls air flow to the intake manifold.In the newer electronic designs,a signal from the control module activates a motor which turns the throttle blade,allowing more or less air to enter.Concentricity of the bore,through a temperature range of-40°C to 150°C(-40°F to 302°F)is essential.Also,a tight fit of the motor housing is needed to prevent slop and therefore prevent gear wear.If the parts were to grow or warp,shaft holes on either end of the bore could lock up the throttle blade,which would be a safety issue.
