Integrated Heating Control System at Coke Oven Battery 5 of Durgapur Steel Plant

摘要

The optimum heating control is one of the crucial operations of coal carbonization process in a Coke Oven Battery of an integrated steel plant. R&D Center for Iron and Steel (RDCIS) and Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has developed a Level-2 process model-based Integrated Heating Control System. The heart of the developed system is a Heat Demand Model that calculates energy requirements of the coke oven from heat and mass balance equations. Theoretically calculated heat demand is continuously adjusted against actual heat consumption in the battery as well as actual thermal condition of battery. The developed system is comprised of Level-II automation hierarchy and is seamlessly dovetailed with Level-I DCS and PLC network through Object Linking and Embedding technology for Process Control (OPC) based interface. The system has been successfully commissioned in the newly re-built Coke Oven Battery No. 5 of Durgapur Steel Plant.
