Global ironmaking through blast furnace route continues to dominate the steelmaking scenario. In 2011, more than 70% of steel was produced globally through BF-BOF route using an average of 770 kg of coal per tonne of steel. There seems to be no viable alternative to cokemaking technology which however is not considered an eco-friendly technology.The increased awareness and also emission limits specified by statutory authorities all over the world including India have posed a challenge to the engineers and designers who have found innovative economic solutions. Cokemaking technology has found some answers to the environmental problems, but the search for more innovative technologies / solutions continue.BEC started its journey in this field 50 years back as a small engineering unit mainly supplying coke oven doors and anchorage castings. Today, BEC has emerged as a reliable supplier of turnkey projects with the best available technology of coke making including CDCP which is highly energy efficient and eco-friendly.
