Some of the relevant post-combustion CCS research trends includes the reduction of the energy consumption required for regeneration. It is a priority to find novel solvents that show high affinity for CO2 together with an ease of regeneration and reuse. Recently, impregnated solid sorbents have been suggested to tackle with these issues. In particular amine-impregnated solid sorbents require less regeneration energy due to the reduction in water content and the higher heat capacity of solids. As a consequence, they may have the ability to reduce the efficiency penalty of CCS in power plants.
