The first discussion topic focused on re-refining used oil anc some of the implications of utilizing this technology for base oil production. Thad McNeil with Evergreen Oil, Inc. provided an overview of the process of re-refining used oil into Group II base oil. In order to be successful, it is critical to have strong control of your waste oil stream as the raw materials input into the process. There is a push for the transportation sector to create a closed loop self sustaining system, thereby reducing environmental impact. The number of re-refineries continues to expand across the globe and will continue to increase in the United States driven by tax and investment incentives for renewable energy sources.
