India allocates new coal mines

India has approved the allocation of fve new coal areas after a gap of four years, following an electronic auction that allowed private-sector mining frms to sell 25pc of the coal produced in the market for the frst time. India’s coal ministry eventually held the e-auction in No- vember, ofering 27 coal mines for non-regulated sectors, or those industries where end-product prices are market driven, such as cement or sponge iron.
