India October cement output drops nearly 8pc

Cement output in India, the world’s second-biggest producer, declined by 7.7pc in October, pressured by weak demand and slower economic growth. October’s decline more than ofset a small gain in cu- mulative output in April-September, the frst six months of India's 2019-20 fnancial year. Cement production in the seven months through October declined by 0.6pc to 189.74mn t, from 190.85mn t in the year-earlier period, according to data compiled by India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. The decline contrasts with April-October last year, when production rose by 15pc.
