India's cement production in July fell by 13.5pc from the same month last year, signalling softer demand for petroleum coke and coal in a weakened economy. July cement production was 24.2mn t, down from 28mn t a year earlier, as the industry wrestles with the after-efects of Covid-19-related lockdowns. This was also slightly down from 26.3mn t in the preceding month, although June volumes were 18.5pc higher than May's 22.2mn t, government data show. July's production marked the ffth consecutive monthly year-on-year decline. The latest data also takes April-July output, the frst four months in the Indian fnancial year, to 77.4mn t, down by a steep 32.2pc from 114mn t in the same period last year.
