No deal reached on Alcoa’s Spanish smelter

Mediation talks between US-based aluminium producer Alcoa and workforce representatives for its San Ciprian aluminium facility have failed, with a final decision on the smelter’s fu- ture to be made within 15 days. Talks were underway between the company and the San Ciprian works council after Alcoa announced plans to cut the 534 employees at the facility’s aluminium plant as a result of “unsustainable circumstances”.
