Rusal starts closure of Nadvoitsky smelter

Russian aluminium producer Rusal has started to shut down production at its Nadvoitsky smelter in Karelia because of sanctions imposed by the US Ofce of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). “[As a result of the] OFAC sanctions, the Nadvoitsky aluminium smelter has lost access to its end market and to a steady supply of raw materials. Production at the plant was completely oriented towards the US market,” Rusal said.
