Oman’s Orpic starts producing petroleum coke

Omani state-owned refnery Orpic has started producing petroleum coke after installing a coker as part of a refnery expansion. The 200,000 b/d Sohar refnery starting producing coke on 16 August and has produced about 6,000t over the frst two weeks. Full capacity is expected to be about 500,000t/yr. Samples are being tested, but the coke’s quality will not have stabilized yet. Once output reaches 25,000t in around 2-3 weeks’ time, the company expects to be able to confrm the coke’s specifcations.
